LEHR LM139SP 20-Inch 5 HP 4-Cycle OHV Propane-Powered Self-Propelled Eco Mower (CARB Compliant) Review

I'll cut to the chase on this one. I'm sure most of you, like I was, are asking is there anything wrong with this mower? The answer is no. The mower takes about 5 minutes to unpack and setup. After adding some 10w-30 oil and a propane tank it's ready to go.
First time cranking it up is uneventful. To start mine it was just a matter of three pulls on the handle. But since then, it's down to 1 pull, or 2 if I disconnected the tank. Pull starting it is barely harder than opening an old refrigerator door, and much easier than other mowers. The throttle may take some getting used to. It's propane so when you increase the throttle it takes a few seconds to catch up. And for everyone wondering how long a tank lasts I have the answer. This thing will run full speed, with the drive wheels engaged for 1 hour and 15 minutes exactly. I ran out of things to mow figuring that out.
The self propelled feature is nice, nothing fancy to break. The speed is adjusted with the throttle, and disengaged with a second handle underneath the brake handle. Push the mower without the drive engaged and you'll hear the drive components freewheeling. It's not very loud, but you can feel a faint resistance. I've had a little trouble with my wheel drive belt though. Twice now the wheels failed to engage. But all I gotta do is tighten the belt tension a tad. Not a big deal.
One fascinating feature about the mower is that most everything is either bolted on, or held in place with pins. No rivets, or anything of the sort to work their way loose. Almost all the components are heavy duty and held into place with a bracket or a clamp. I say almost all, because there is one thing that may fall off. That's the hubcaps. Every wheel has a little Grey hubcap that keeps debris out of the axle components. The hubcaps just snap on, and are pretty easy to pull off. But don't worry, They won't affect anything if you pull them off. Plus you can give them to a friend that has a gas mower that never seems to start or run correctly. Might make him/her feel better when your mowing your lawn like a champ.

RoboMower - RL850 Review

The last time I bought a product this life-changing was the original IBM PC in 1983. RoboMower makes you feel like you've entered a new era, where those Jetsons episodes we watched as kids have finally come true. The first time your robot mows your lawn is like using your first dishwasher, microwave, etc. How did we ever live without this thing?
RoboMower erased all my fears. Would it take too long to mow since it would cut a random pattern? No, RoboMower methodically cut my almost-square front lawn row by row, just like I would have done. Would it lack enough power to cut front and back lawns, about 600 feet of perimeter? No, it can do both on one battery charge! Would I need the rapid charger? No, charging over night works OK since it cuts faster than I expected. Could it handle my still wet grass without clogging? Yes, it cut fine with no grass build-up under the blade areas. Could it handle the slope in my back yard? No problem!
Things the manual didn't tell me that I wish it had:
1)On sweeping curves the wire needs to be placed closer than the supplied ruler and instructions indicate. I moved it 3-4' closer to the edge, otherwise the RoboMower makes turns too wide. The tighter the turn the closer the wire needs to be. Plan on tweaking wires on curves a lot when testing!
2)When you place the wire down the first time, lightly place the stakes, as I found I moved about one in three. When you move one, at that point you'll have either too much slackor not enough. To adjust slack you'll need to pull the wire through many stakes. Don't expect to tug wire through several stakes at once ' the insulation will split on a snug stake and you'll have a bare spot! Carefully work slack under each stake. Be sure to leave enough spare wire at BOTH ends of your loop so you can provide slack on either side as needed. If only one side has extra wire, you may have to pull slack through almost all your stakes.
3)You want stakes loose when testing to adjust slack, but if you leave the wire too high off the ground and turn the blades on by mistake you'll cut the wire.
4)When I first tested, over a straight stretch of 30 feet I tried just one stake at each end, pulling the wire taught to the ground. That didn't work ' the mower can still swish the wire left or right an inch or two and not run the course you intended to test. You'll need the wire snug enough so the mower can't shift it. A stake every 10 feet or so solves that.
5)None of the literature or their website tells you RoboMower comes with only two perimeter wire connectors so you can create only two zones. If you need more you need to order the connector accessory kit.
6)You may need more wire than you think. I had carefully precalculated I would need only 450 feet, so I didn't buy extra wire from Amazon in advance. Turns out on mowing day the 500 foot roll wasn't enough (curves gobble up wire!) so I was running around town searching for more. I tried Sears who sells RoboMower but has no wire. Sears sent me to Home Depot saying any 18-22 gauge copper wire would work. Well, HD doesn't have wire that small!. I finally found it at the Hoover Store, since Hoover stores service RoboMower (and will soon sell the to-be-announced Friendly Robotics Vacuum.)
My front yard is 1800 feet, almost a rectangle with three sweeping curves. RoboMower cuts that in 35 minutes row-by-row from house to curb, like I would in one pass, in a methodical manor perpendicular to the street leaving no uncut areas between rows. But the mowing pattern it uses on my 3600-foot rear yard is quite different. First it cuts at a 45-degree angle leaving uncut areas between the rows it cuts. When done with this first pass, it shifts 90-degrees to cut across the first rows, catching some uncut spaces but not all. Then it shifts again, hoping to catch more uncut areas. This behavior means some areas are cut repeatedly so it needs about two hours to mow the rear yard.
Mowing efficiency has a lot to do with where you train it to leave the edge to start mowing inside. When it starts mowing, it seems to ponder about what kind of area it is within. If started in a small leg off your main lawn and it keeps bumping the wire time and again after a short distance, it does into a different behavior than if it starts within a very large area and encounters the wire infrequently. However it starts seems to be how it will continue to mow, seemingly choosing the pattern it thinks fits what it first encountered. So, I'm experimenting with the 'learn perimeter' function to teach it exactly how far to trim the edge before turning inside the lawn. My theory is if I start the mower in the same spot each time, and teach it to leave edge trimming in the correct place, it will always choose the better pattern for my lawn. If you start it in a different spot each time it may mow less efficiently at times. So, like a child, RoboMower needs a little advice.
I'd rate this among the most fabulous purchases of my lifetime. The biggest problems: feeling guilty because you're doing no work and dealing with your neighbors who stop to watch you watching your mower at work.

As other reviewers said, you will have to do some trimming, as the mower leaves about a 2 inch gap between the wheel and the cutting reel.I picked up a little cordless electric trimmer for that duty.

I bought these wheels to replace the ones on my Craftsman lawn mower.This lawn mower has unique wheels, whereby there is a ring gear inside the back of the wheel (poor design by Craftsman). The original wheels had stripped the gear (after a year of use), and the self propel would no longer function.These wheels fit perfectly, and self propel once again works.I may buy another set to keep on hand, I can see these wheels having to be replaced after a period of time due to craftsman's design flaw of the self propel mechanism.The drive gear is metal, and the ring gear in the wheel is plastic.I think they should have made a metal ring gear to fit the inside of the back of the wheel, instead of plastic, and it would have extended the life of them.

Black and Decker 241125-00 Fan MM Series Electric Mowers Review

If you are reading this, you probably need to replace this part.The problem is not that the plastic is brittle (ok, it is), but the real problem is that the cooling fins were designed too tall.When the mower blade hits a root, branch, rock, etc, it will flex up a little - just enough to push these fan fins up and against the motor bolt heads.Did you notice the bolts sticking down, just above this fan?So you can guess what happens when the spinning fan fins bump up against the metal bolts. Snap, snap, snap.When I discovered this on my mower, I was missing 5 fins, with only 3 left.

Ok, here is the simple solution.If you know how to pull the blade off, then just take this part off and remember how the various washers go back on.Once you make this modification on the new replacement fan, you do not have to do this again!You will need to use a heavy-duty sheer/sissors and cut off the top outside 1/4" corner off the fins.Try to cut the same amount and shape off each fin to minimize throwing off the balance.I just cut off the corner in a long triangular shape to create more clearance between the fan and the bolts.Reinstall the fan and washers, and make sure there is at least 1/4" space between each fin and the bolts.

My mower still works great, and I have not had a single broken fin since I've done this.I hope this helps all. (except the parts seller of course, sorry!)By the way, the 4 stars are for Amazon.comThe fan designers get no stars for overlooking this simple design error.

Let's see...to start with, the lawnmower wouldn't work out of the box. Just flat-out would not start. Two hours into the phone call with the service center, they directed us to a shop a few miles away. Owner of the shop was able to get the mower started and then informed us that he was not an authorized PoulanPro repair shop and that we shouldn't have been sent to him. Got it home and mower immediately returned to the default "not starting mode". A couple of hours later and a trip for some starting fluid and we were in business. Fast-forward two months and we're back to square one.

When it works, it's fine. But when it doesn't, it would have been nice to have a store to drive this POS back to and dump at their feet.

Arnold/Toro 490-100-0035 22-Inch Lawn Mower Blade Review

My Toro is over 6 yrs. old. I've had the original blade sharpened 2 yrs. ago but thought I would opt for a new one. Thus, I ordered this one that looked IDENTICAL to the the factory blade. When I rec'd it, it did NOT look like the picture (the one I rec'd was solid at the ends, unlike the picture and my original blade).I did not want to go to the hassle of returning it as it was only $25 (free shipping) so I removed the old blade and attached this one.It was definitely sharp and I could see the grass blades mulched to practically dust! Thus, I would recommend but picture is deceiving vs. what you receive.

This mulcher kit worked as advertised for my husqvarna mower, was easy to install and mows great. I did not know that Poulan parts were the same as Husqvarna. MTD LAWN MOWER PART # 931-1034B DEFLECTOR Assembly-CHUT Review

I have a Husky 22" 5 1/2 hp push mower (MTD 11A-508N731).The original part was 731-1034B, which has now been replaced by 931-1034B.The cover just bolts on with 2 screws, used the same screws from the old one.Only issue was it didn't have threads in the plate of the new cover, so it's a little tricky to get started.Once you do, you can tighten them down no problem.

I would have liked to have seen a better design, it's still just as breakable as before, attached only by soft plastic.But that's how companies make money, by selling replacement parts, or by making you buy all new products, right?

Neuton 81214A00006-1301 Trimmer/Edger Attachment For CE 5 Lawn Mowers Review

We have had a Neuton 5.1 mower for some time. We love it. Once you go electric you can never go back. No gas, no fumes, no yanking, no tune-ups, no oil, mowing heaven. I personally think you'd have to be nuts to even consider going gas if you needed a new mower. I haven't even mentioned that gas mowers are INCREDIBLE polluters. Taking into account the pollution used to create the electricty for Neutons, Neutons still pollute a small fraction of what gas mowers do. Anyhow if you are here you probably have a Neuton but in case you were considering one, I say great move to get a Neuton or at least an electric mower.

But one of the nicest things about the Neuton is this attachment. I have always had problems with hand held edgers and trimmers to get the things to work and to advance cord, even with auto advance. The Neuton attachment advances the cord automatically and flawlessly. The replacement cartridges are easy to install and last a long time. It is super easy to use. Just stick in front and flip the power switch to aux and away you go.

It is very powerful as an edger and does a great, clean job. It also is very powerful as a trimmer. The only thing to keep in mind is that it does have limitations as a trimmer. It will go up and down when you raise and lower the Neuton but obviously does not have the range of heights a handheld trimmer would. So for trimming high hedges this will not work. But for trimming around trees, and flower beds, and our herb and vegetable gardens this works great.

Highly recommended as is the Neuton. And, again, if you take care of your own lawn, sell on Ebay or give away your gas mower now and get an electric. I would highly recommend cordless. Almost anyone who I have ever talked to that had one bad thing to say about an electric mower was because it was corded and a hassle. Electric mowers are the best thing to happen to lawn care since...well since people started having lawns.

The quality of cut is below what I've come to expect from my commercial mower - but hey, this only cost 1/25th of what it did.After a month of owning it and running it near 60 hours, it seems reliable.Starts 75% of the time on the first pull and always by the second.The drive belt chatters some if the grass is juicy and collects on the belt.It does a near flawless job in Tall Fescue, but leaves stragglers and obvious wheel tracks in Kentucky Blue Grass.The bagging system seems to work well.I mainly use it in mulching mode - or, if the grass is tall, discharge mode.It cuts best with the front of the deck set to your intended cutting height and the rear set higher by one notch.And, speaking of tall grass, it does a pretty good job cutting tall grass (6-8") at the highest wheel setting (4" on this mower) compared to other 22" mowers I've had.I tried switching the blade to the Gator #96-607 blade, which doesn't really improve the quality of cut, but it does seem to last longer before it needs sharpening.The Gator also seems to have a slight advantage in clipping dispersal when in discharge mode.The cleaning port does ok to rinse out the bulk of what collects under the deck - but if you wait long after you finish cutting and the grass dries under the deck, all bets are off.Taller clippings collect around the blade shroud and must be removed manually from time to time.Granted, I'm picky - and to get a better cutting 22" mower will likely cost twice as much.All in all, not too bad.

THIS IS A FIRST CLASS PRODUCT!I recently bought an Ariens 46" lawn tractor and decided that I needed a grass bagger to pick up the clippings.I'm too old to rake clippings.With some research I found that the Poulan Pro came in the 46" deck size, and that it was made to fit the Ariens and Husquavarna tractors as well.Since Amazon had it at $249 with free shipping I decided to give it a go.THAT SAVED ME OVER A HUNDRED BUCKS OVER THE TRACTOR ONLINE STORE PRICE.YEAH!It arrived in one big box from Fed Ex.When I opened it I found the instructions and a bag with 4 one inch shoulder bolts.I thought they have lost the hardware.Wrong.That's all the hardware YOU HAVE TO INSTALL!I installed the 4 shoulder bolts for the tractor arm at the back of the Ariens.The Arm slides onto that and attaches to it with an ingenius locking lever already attached.You slide it down and it clicks locked. IT IS OFFSET TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND DOESN'T AFFECT THE BALL COUPLER I HAVE ON THE BACK OF MY TRACTOR. Then the rear bagger bracket that holds the lid and bags slides down onto that arm(all the clips and such are already in place on it)Gee that took 10 minutes.Then I found the shoot came in 2 sections.The lower section had a tab and two eye holes for the springs, and all I had to do was raise the safety guard, line up the tab and clip those spring hooks into their respective eyeholes.Gee that took another 10 minutes.The top section is a little trickier but once you see how it lines up and clips together it is pretty easy too.It is held secured by an already installed bungi connector.The upper shoot has a handle built in to help you rotate it to slide onto the alignment device.Clip the bungi and it is all connected.The main thing is to keep the seal in place where the shoot goes into the rear box.You have to pay attention there.In 30 minutes I was ready to cut.I had no idea how many grass clippings my yard would produce.I have a difficult yard with a steep hill in back and swingsets and kids toys to dodge.But off to mow I went.My lawn filled the twin bags three times.You just stop, lift the lid, and slide out the bags off of their rails, empty them and replace. The right bag lip goes over the left one when you reinstall.The two bags share a center rail.No biggie!That operation is fast and easy too.THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THE GRASS BAGGER REALLY WORKS GREAT!Installation is a snap, everything lines up perfectly.[hint, you don't need the more expensive quick connect version of the bagger.This already quick connects and everything you need is included.]It even has a little red spinner on the upper shoot to tell you when the bags are full. Poulan Rocks!My lawn never looked better.No more raking clippings and leaves for this old guy!BRING ON THE FALL, I'M READY!

I was very happy with this mower. My only complaint was the rear flexiable guard is too long and when you are pulling the mower backwards it get into the blade. I just cut off about 3 inches of the guard which is just a soft plastic and it works great. The mower has plenty of power and it is quiet. It mulches high grass OK and does normal length grass fine. All in all a fine mower.

McLane 17-Inch Reel Mower Grass Catcher For Push And Powered Models 17-C Review

I had been looking for this type of grass catcher for quite some time and at the right price. Each time I found it, it was close to $100.00 and so I thought that I'd try second-hand stores and yard sales but never found any and plus, 17" grass catchers were tricky to find. I went to Sears to find a replacement for my 19 year old, 12.5hp, 42" Craftsman lawn tractor and came home with the Snapper LT130.What a difference!I have no complaints about my old tractor - it has performed exceptionally well, but the Snapper seemed to be reading my mind as I went around the yard.Very smooth, responsive, and no lack of power.I was apprehensive at first about the 4 wheel steering, but would not go back to 2 wheel. The tractor seems to be well made with heavy duty parts where it counts.I look forward to many years mowing with the LT130.
3-21-2010: After putting a few hours on the machine I realize that the steering is a bit heavy.I have no problem with it, but someone with limited strength might find it difficult.Still an excellent mower!
4-27-10: I just ordered "high lift" blades for the tractor. (Murray P/N 92117) My "country lawn" is a bit thick for the mulching blades that came with the tractor. The deck gets clogged and really slows down production. I'll post an update when I get the new blades installed. I still say the mower is great, though...
6-19-10 New blades work much better. Mulching blades would probably work well if you mowed on a more regular basis than I do.

McCulloch MCM2013 20-Inch Push Reel Mower Review

I can't believe how much bogus information is out there on reel mowers. Let me say that I read every single review on every single 20 inch reel mower on every site that sells them and one still finds it difficult to decide. Even the manufacturers' sites are horrible in terms of product information. Many of the retailers (not Amazon) push the Brill's and you have to question their advice when that's all they sell. The Brill's and other "high-end" no contact mowers are a lot more expensive, made of a lot of plastic, and are too small. Anyway, back to the McCulloch. First, I was attracted to reel mowers due to their simplicity, durability, and for some, their price. I'm not an enviro wheenie, just someone who appreciates a good, solid, product that works. Next, and after reading a ton of reviews, I decided I wanted a 20 inch mower. No matter what brand or model, most people complained that they which they bought a bigger model. Buying the 20" models limits your choices. The big seller is the Scotts and by most accounts it's a decent product. However, I was turned off by the fact that the gears in the wheels are made of plastic. To me, that was a deal breaker, especially after reading how some user's broke only after one season. Not a good design. The Gimour was next, but I've read a good bit of unfavorable reviews on it to. The big selling point is that it comes with a grass catcher that most users said was totally useless. So, the other choice I saw was the McCulloch. It had the 20" cut, all steel gears, and I read it was US made. I can vouch that it is 20", does have steel gears, but it is made in Taiwan, not the US. Also, that manufacturer site say it has 4 blades, nope - this has 5 blades. I got it today, put it together in 5 minutes, and then used it (it was real easy and the instructions were fine). I used to take me 30 to 45 minutes with my gas mower (I really move though) and it took me about the same time, maybe 5 minutes more. In terms of difficulty mowing, I just didn't see it. My gas mower was a 5.5hp, non self propelled Yardman (a Walmart special that ran fantastic I might add). It was different-I think this mower uses more arms, but less back (a good thing for me-I'm a fit 37 yo male). In terms ofcut, I pulled it right outside of the box, attached the handle and mowed - no adjustments, and it mowed fine. I was preparing for the worst and was really surprised at how well it mowed and my yard is a mess of every crab grass, dandelion, chickweed, you name it, I have it. My yard is not flat either. Mowing was really easy and fun. I don't know if the fun will wear off, but it was. What kills me, is that I mowed in flip flops - something I never would have done with my gas mower. It was great, my 2 year old daughter was even out playing on the swing set. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. When compared to the Scotts, it seems like a better deal - same cutting width, same 5 blades, all steel gears vs plastic on the Scotts, and this handle is quite sturdy - no flimsy at all. Even though it looks like a Scotts (made by American Lawn, but built in China), I called American Lawn Mower and asked their customer service and the girl said "No, it isn't made by us". If you are thinking about getting one of these, I wouldn't hesitate to make the jump - at this price and with Amazon's backing, this is a great mower I'm glad I bought. Sorry for the run on, but there is a lot of bad info out there and I want to help out. Good luck.

Replacement Lawnmower Blade for AYP / Sears Mowers 22" Cut 141114 Review

Bought this blade and noticed it was very flimsy. The metal wasn't very thick and during the 3rd time i mowed i hit a small root. It was badly bent. Went to local walmart and bought a 22inch Gator Blade on sale for $14.97. It is a good thick blade. No problems have hit a few things and it held up. My fault for hitting root but i think the blade shouldn't have bent as bad as it did.

Ive been on a battery/electric operated yard tool craze. When my gas mower died a few weeks ago I started looking into electric mowers as a compliment to my battery operated BD, weedeater,blower,hedge clippers. I was hesitant as an electric mower for a 12,000 lot is a big step, giving up on ease of movement and power and selfpropelled feature or so i thought.

Well i ordered off of Amazon and it came within 72 hours, free shipping WOW and the price was terrific compared to local stores and no tax...

Anyway, i put it together and it was ready to use within 10 minutes, really!!!

You do need an electrical cord to operate and i had 100' cord which is perfect for my yard. My yard has not been mowed in several weeks as my gas mower died and i did not want to spend the money for reserection of a 4 year old mower plus gas prices are crazy right now. I did plan my route since i would have a cord i was pulling. Turned it on and it was amazing on how much less noise it was compared to my gas mower. My wife came out and asked when i was going to start but had been mowing for 15 minutes, lol.

I started in the mulching mode at first and not paying attention had it on the lowest setting....it was going fine but when i hit thicker deeper grass it did bogg down. I inserted the discharge shute and even on the lowest setting in taller grass it mowed fine. Once i realized i had it on the lowest setting and moved it up in height comparable to my gas mower the electric mower never bogged down one time even when mulching!!!The cord is not bad at all although i did have to get used to it as i wrapped it around the tree once and just laughed at myself. I thought i would miss the self propelled feature, however, this mower is sooo light its like pushing a vacum cleaner so i was managing the cord with my left, pushing with my right and no problems, mowed like a champ, no uneven cuts. My neighbors came out and were admiring the mower all commented on how nice and sleeked it looked for a mower and how quiet it was.

I would recommend this mower to anyone wanting to go electric as the cord is not that big a deal like i thought i would be when reading the reviews. So far so good B&D has a home run with this mower.

Oregon Gator Mulcher 3-N-1 Lawn Mower Blade For AYP/Poulan 21-3/32-Inch 95-921 95-621 Review

I have use this blade now for the past two years on my Craftsman mower.I can now mulch since this blade will chop up the grass in such small pieces that it usually will not lay on top of the lawn (exception is when the grass damp or pretty long).

Original blade would never work well enough to ever mulch my grass.I have learned over the past two years to mow more oftenlike @ 20% sooner then you would when bagging an this has eliminated the clumping problem.I have a hunch that the blade would work better on a different mower but have no proof of it till I buy ANYTHING other than a Sears mower.
