Ok, here is the simple solution.If you know how to pull the blade off, then just take this part off and remember how the various washers go back on.Once you make this modification on the new replacement fan, you do not have to do this again!You will need to use a heavy-duty sheer/sissors and cut off the top outside 1/4" corner off the fins.Try to cut the same amount and shape off each fin to minimize throwing off the balance.I just cut off the corner in a long triangular shape to create more clearance between the fan and the bolts.Reinstall the fan and washers, and make sure there is at least 1/4" space between each fin and the bolts.
My mower still works great, and I have not had a single broken fin since I've done this.I hope this helps all. (except the parts seller of course, sorry!)By the way, the 4 stars are for Amazon.comThe fan designers get no stars for overlooking this simple design error.
