The spoons came unsharpened, by which I mean they were completely flat and useless.I had to remove all 32 and shape them with bench and angle grinders.Even then, the spoons are so small and poorly shaped that they do not penetrate the soil or remove decent plugs.I placed two 50lb bags of fertilizer on the contraption, but despite my extensive shaping/sharpening managed only 1/2 inch plugs.If you need an aerator more than once a year, buy a good one.If you need one less than once a year, rent a good one.
